About Jay Mitchell

Welcome to Jay Mitchell's Adventurer/Photographer website (www.mitchellstockphotos.com) or his photography website www.jaymitchell-photography.com.  Jay has been travelling around the world since for the last 20 years from South America through to Australia, photographing his journeys along the way.   His work has started to get notice since writing his book 'South America - A Photographic Journey', of which has also developed a website to coincide with its release.  He has also had the book endorsed by Sir Ranulph Fiennes arguably one of the greatest explorers of our time, he wrote:

‘A refreshing look at a journey through South America with a blend of beautiful photographs taking you from end to end of South America with unique personal narratives, anecdotes and stories which accompany the images of this journey. Jay has captured the essence of South America and what you are likely see when travelling through this beautiful continent, where cultures, vibrant colours and wildlife become one in his journey.’  Sir Ranulph Fiennes Bt, OBE, The World’s Greatest Living Explorer

Jay is very much an anthropological, adventurer, photographer and likes to spend time with the locals getting to know more about his surroundings and the cultures that are present and the wildlife, as he tends to specialise in wildlife photography.  Since the release of his book he has begun to attend many of the events in the UK that specialise in Photography and Travel Writing such as the 'Destination Show 2010', 'Travellers Tales Festival 2010' and the 'Outdoors Show 2010'  and is present at the 'London Book Fair 2010' in order to promote his work.

In the next year Jay is hoping to visit Cuba and other countries with a view to writing more 'Photographic Journey' styled books and to also become more well know in the Photographic and Traveller Writing arena and to also add to his already growing collection of photographs that are available to purchase for the use in Magazines, Books, Newspapers, Websites and other medias.

Some of the places that Jay has visited are: Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Fiji, Canada, Indonesia, Tunisia, Morocco, Macedonia, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Maldives, Slovakia, Slovenia, United States, Moldova, France, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Romania, Czech Republic, Ireland, Croatia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Poland, New Zealand, Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Egypt.

Jay has just recently exhibited framed photographs from his new book, 'South America - A Photographic Journey', and has also begun to have his work in a more contemporary style hung in bookshops and other shops across London with a view to promoting his work.

More information about Jay Mitchell

In 2008 Jay Mitchell took time out from working and living in London to take a journey through South America, from Buenos Aires in Argentina to Cartagena in Colombia, it would be 6 months before he reached his goal. This book is a photographic journey through some of the most amazing landscapes, animal life, plant life and outstanding ancient ruins from previous cultures seen anywhere on the planet.

The severe change in weather from Patagonia in the winter to Colombia in spring, the changing seasons and the many different indigenous (indigenas) cultures, with varying ethnic clothing and foods it was easy to lose track of time and just enjoy the surroundings.

'I found that the highlights of my journey were the ‘Lost City’ (Ciudad Perdida) and Isla Gorgona in Colombia, Ushuaia National Park (covered in snow) in Argentina, Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia, Cuyabeno in the Amazon in Ecuador and of course the relaxed Huachachina Oasis (sand boarding) in Peru. Going to so many amazing places and meeting the indigenous people and being able to study their culture brought about my anthropological days again.  Whilst often travelling alongside other travellers I often found the locals so accommodating and even if they had nothing they are always still trying to give.

My premise when writing the book was to move away from a very wordy type of guide to something a lot more photographic, where you are able to make plans of wanting to visit a place I have photographed, revisit memories of when you have been there yourself or revel in what South America has to offer in its beauty.

Below are a few photographs of myself along the journey, if you click on any of them they will open a Lightbox for your view them.

Please do enjoy and do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to use my photographs or visit the 'Contact' page.
